Pima Arts celebrates artistic masterworks while fueling creative innovation in the artists of tomorrow, with an exciting season led by the illustrious artists and educators of Pima Community College.
Pima Theater kicks off the excitement in October with two original productions that rejuvenate vintage stories: Neverland: The Lost Shadows, a unique perspective on Peter Pan, and Frankenstein’s Monster, an empathetic reimagining of the classic novel. The theatrical season then takes flight with the heartwarming musical Come from Away in February and the jet-setting farce Boeing Boeing in April.
Throughout the year, Pima’s diverse musical ensembles present free showcases and major concert series in October, December, April and May. Audiences will experience classical and contemporary repertoire from the Pima Orchestra, Concert Band and String Ensemble, alongside the big band tunes of the Jazz Band and the innovative rhythms of the Percussion Ensemble. The lineup also features traditional Mexican standards from Mariachi Azteca de Pima College, exquisite vocal performances by the Chorale and College Singers and intimate sets by the Guitar Ensemble, culminating in a vibrant blend of song and stage during the Musical Theater Workshop.
In December and May, Pima Dance takes the stage to present visionary choreography from students, faculty and guest artists, spanning ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop and folklórico. Visual arts are equally celebrated, with the Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery exhibiting renowned regional artists James G. Davis, Joy Fox McGrew and Oscar Bernal alongside local emerging talent, while the Visual Arts, Health Sciences and Desert Vista galleries host student, faculty and local artist work all season. The grand finale arrives in May, celebrating student film, animation and game design at the Digital Arts Awards, and closing with the annual Pima Fashion Show—a red-carpet runway extravaganza showcasing stunning couture creations by students and alumni.
