Gary Goldberg : Pareidolia - Photography and Felted Textiles

September 22 - October 31, 2025.

Reception Wednesday 4-6, September 24 2025

The Visual Arts Gallery opens its season with “Pareidolia”, an exhibition of felted textiles and color photography by Gary Goldberg. Based in Berkeley, California, Goldberg’s work explores surface, color, and texture, inviting viewers to find meaning, pattern, or recognition in unexpected places. The exhibition title refers to pareidolia, the human tendency to see faces and familiar shapes in abstraction. Whether through his richly layered felted tapestries or his color photography, Goldberg offers viewers space to engage imagination and perception. Goldberg is a Professor Emeritus of Art at Midwestern State University, where he has taught for 30 years. He earned his B.F.A. at Arizona State University and his M.F.A. at the University of Nebraska. Goldberg’s work is included in several major public collections, including the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and the Photography Collection at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas.

The gallery and its programs are free and open to the public. Hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and before most evening performances in the Center for the Arts theaters. For additional details, call 520-206-6942.
